Ingredients
- ½ cup butter (room temperature)
- 1 ⅔ cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- 3 cups diced & peeled apples (about 2 large apples)
- Optional: ¼ cup chopped pecans or walnuts
- 1 ⅓ cups brown sugar
- 2 tbsp half & half
- 4 tbsp butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch springform pan.
- In a bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until combined.
- In another bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and mix well. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Fold in diced apples and nuts if using.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown.
- While baking, prepare caramel sauce by heating brown sugar, half & half, and butter in a saucepan until smooth.
- Once baked, drizzle caramel sauce over the cake and return it to the oven for another 10-15 minutes.
- Allow to cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
