Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup salted butter (softened)
  • 1 and 1/3 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar (for rolling)
  • 1 and 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl or stand mixer, beat the softened butter until smooth. Add granulated sugar and brown sugar; mix until light and fluffy.
  3. Incorporate the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and cream of tartar. Gradually blend this dry mixture into the wet mixture.
  5. Shape dough into balls (about 1.5 to 2 inches) and roll them in a mix of granulated sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Place dough balls on prepared sheets, ensuring space between them, then bake for 9-11 minutes until edges are set but centers remain shiny.
  7. Gently reshape cookies after removing from the oven if necessary, then cool on wire racks.
