- 1 tsp white vinegar (4g)
- 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, room temperature (339g – 3 sticks)
- 1/2 cup full-fat cream cheese, room temperature (113g or 4 oz.)
- 1 Tbsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste (12g)
- 1 tsp fine salt (6g)
- 8 cups powdered sugar (1000g)
- 2 Tbsp heavy whipping cream, room temperature (30g)
- Electric Green Gel Food Coloring
- Black Gel Food Coloring
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two round cake pans by greasing them and lining with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together cake flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream together unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Combine buttermilk, vegetable oil, green gel food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar in the wet mixture.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
- Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for about 28 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
- For the cream cheese buttercream, beat butter and cream cheese until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar followed by vanilla extract and heavy cream until fluffy.
- Assemble your cake by layering with frosting in between layers and frosted on the outside.
